Merry Fucking Christmas 2012

This year's holiday card is a silly one.

She's prettier when she's dirtier. When you get this beauty in the mail, hopefully it's earned some smudge from machines, crates, and dirty fingers. If you'd like to read this inkless filth more easily, rub her on a smooth floor and see what filth she picks up.

See? I'm not the only dirty one.

Stay tuned for a Valentine's Day card in 2013. Just as dirty, but in pink.

Thanks to Jonathan Selikoff at Vote for Letterpress for encouraging me to do something so terrible and for pressing them so beautifully. And to Barbara Calzolari, my calligraphic mentor - her August 2012 Nib to Brush workshop changed everything.

2012 Holiday Gift Box Making Workshop

We had so much fun last weekend creating two fabulous containers during the Holiday Gift Box making workshop at Binders Art School. We made a lidded box with an option for unique closing mechanisms, feet, and inner sectional dividers. Day two was devoted to a collapsible container with a lid and/or base.

Take a look at the cool mess we made, things we made and the fun we had by browsing the photo album. Woo hooo!!!

Christmas Card 2012 in Progress

To be letter pressed (Thank you Vote For Letterpress) blindly, on a virginal sheet of hearty white cotton, and dirtied further, while in transit, to those who might think me insanely brilliant, brave, or stupid. :D

Spend a delightful weekend making your own Case Bound Book! Learn to make a book block of pierced and folded blank pages that are stitched together and then glued. Create a custom cover and spine with raw chipboard you then cover with imported handmade papers (Washi Paper). Case books are both sturdy and handsome and feature a supported spine, bookmark and headbands. It is the most recognized book type and is built to last on bookshelves for years to come. We’ll take a break to eat lunch both days and by the end of class, you’ll be very proud of your first Case Bound book.

Upcoming Calligraphy Classes

My name is Anne Elser, and I'm the calligraphy teacher you've been dying to meet.

My students and I have a great time together, honing our craft and discovering together, how completely relaxing, centering, enchanting, and entertaining the art of writing beautiful letters can be.

Below is a current list of group classes I offer in the Atlanta area. I teach at Binders Art School in Buckhead and Spruill Center for the Arts in Dunwoody, both excellent locations and wonderful people to work with.

I also offer private lessons from my home studio in Decatur.

If you're a bookbinder or want to be one, I also offer three delightfully fun and well-structured bookbinding classes of varying levels, each designed to build upon the knowledge gained from the experience of the previous level.

Listen to what my Bookbinding and Calligraphy students have to say and sign up for a class or contact me to book a private lesson or workshop.

Make Your Own Holiday Cards & Envelopes Workshop

Hello Friends,

Would you like help designing a holiday card and envelope as flourished as this one? One that could be reproduced so that each card is hand-made?

I've been making my own Holiday Cards for years and have developed a class just for the purpose of showing others how to do the same.

There are many ways to reproduce an image that level in varying degrees of complexity. Spend the weekend with me October 27th & 28th and I'll show you everything I know AND we'll have a good time doing it. :)

Here is the set I developed during last year's workshop: You Are My Gift. The envelope was in a different green and the materials used were walnut ink and Dr. Martin's White India Ink.

Here's the set I did in 2005 from a linoleum cut. Lino cuts are super fun and fast. All the supplies you'd need to do make of these are at Binders and I can help you pick them out or use the supplies you bring with you.

Let's have fun and play together!
